IT Leaders don hard hats for Habitat

29/09/2008
Software industry leaders including EG Information Consulting Directors Peter Shields and Martin Goss are swapping their laptops for hard hats to take part in a building project in Ghana.

Members of Momentum, the Northern Ireland information and communication technology federation, are seeking support and sponsorship for the Habitat for Humanity building project in October.

The mission is one of over 30 programmes being organised by Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland this year.
The Momentum group will spend 10 days in Ghana, building houses with families who will occupy them but until then, live in difficult and squalid conditions.

The team is led by Peter Shields, chairman of Momentum and managing director of EG Information Consulting, who appealed for sponsorship for the visit.

"Part of our ethos at Momentum is to expand Northern Ireland's economic wellbeing through growth in the ICT sector,” he said.

“We decided to take this ethos a bit further by working with Habitat for Humanity whose vision is of ‘a world where every one has a decent place to live'.

"We are asking Northern Ireland businesses across the economic spectrum to become involved by offering financial support.”

Jenny Williams, of Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland, said: "Taking part in one of our Global Village projects allows people from Northern Ireland to contribute in a very real and practical way to improving the lives of those in need.

“It also changes the perspectives of those who take part and creates advocates for change in our world. Momentum will be making a vital and lasting contribution to the community they work with in Ghana.”
